DESCRIPTION: I captured this photo while on a hike with one of my best friends. I used a slow shutter speed to increase the blurring aspect of the photo. We were aimlessly walking around and had reached a point where we weren’t sure how to get back to the car. We were lost. I wanted to create a photo that captured the mood of the feeling of being lost. When you are lost you are confused and become unsure of which direction to move in, so often we end up caught between indecision and movement. We almost stutter. As you can see in the photo, his head is both looking up while also looking down. I also digitally manipulated the image by turning the color all sepia toned. I did this to increase the effect of having everything look the same, which is the feeling one encounters when they are lost. There are no recognizable landmarks to navigate from, making it harder to find one’s way. We eventually did find our way back to the car, but for a long couple of moments it was doubtful that we ever would.
