DESCRIPTION: I captured this flower while walking the streets of New Haven CT. I was on a flower hunt that day. This particular flower was one of the few that day that truly caught my eye. There was something so patriarchal about it. It stood tall and proud. Its pedals were perfectly symmetrical. It was a healthy flower, robust, and commanded attention. Its heart glowed and pulsed as if were in the prime of its life. I wanted to emphasize its strength and knew by digitally manipulating it that I could. I brought the image into Photoshop and brightened the image to an extreme as to blur out the background. I wanted to show its vibrancy so I used diffuse glow to bring its core to life. I wanted to convey a sense of personification to the flower so I brought the highlights out of it. This gave the flower an even deeper sense of alertness. It reminded me of a flower only found on a distant planet. I pictured this flower being revered by its inhabitants and possibly chosen as their symbol to represent their country. There is something so simple about this flower, but yet so stunning.
